Faster boot to Windows
Want to boot Windows a little faster. Try Hibernation. Go to Control Panel and click on Power Options icon. If you are using WinXp you might need to switch to Classic View to see the Power Options icon. Under Hibernation tab click on Enable Hibernation box.
Under Advanced Choose Hibernate under "When I Press the power button on my computer:"
Then shutdown and turn on your computer by the power button. You will save a few minutes booting up Windows this way.

Actually there is a faster way to boot to Windows if your system can do it. I choose Standby instead of Hibernation. My system resume to Windows almost instantly. No more waiting for Windows to boot and it saves power to turn off the system when it's not in use.

You're right about Standby boots faster than Hibernation. Just please be aware that there are basically two different type of system standby. They are called S1 and S3. In a S1 standby, which most systems can do, the system is not 100% power off. In S1 standby only the CPU, hard drive, and monitor are turned off. But everything else still running. You still can hear the power supply fan running. This is called power on suspend. In S3 or save to RAM. The system is 99% off. Only the DRAM circuitry is running to keep the saved content alive. You don't hear the power supply running in S3 shutdown. On a S3 resume, the system BIOS restore the DRAM and pass control over the Windows and you will resume back to where you were in seconds.
If your system can do S3 reliablely, then by no mean enable Stanby, and use this to shutdown and boot up Windows. In my experience, I found S3 is unstable once end user start loading new application and drivers. So Hibernation is the best alternative.
